Up close and personal with ceramicist Ange-line Tetrault
Ange-line Tetrault’s latest product, a heron-headed cotton ball container, joins the designer’s eccentric assembly of unicorn vases and garden gnome wine stoppers already part of the IMM Living collection. The OCADU alum looks to nature and pop culture for her whimsical creations. Tetrault’s ceramic circus, ranging in price from $20 to $100, is available at shops across the city, including Rolo (24 Bellair St) and Teatro Verde (98 Yorkville Ave).
DL: What are your summer plans?
AT: Woman King Collective, a group of female multidisciplinary artists and designers I co-founded, is curating a show called Semblance at Bev Hisey’s store from August 1 to 13 (1066 Dundas St W).
DL: What is the best thing about summer in Toronto?
AT: There are so many events/festivals happening that it can be a little overwhelming. I always look forward to the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition, SummerWorks Performance Festival’s Live Art series, TIFF in the Park and the Junction Flea .
DL: Name a Toronto talent worth keeping an eye on.
AT: Grace Eunmi Lee. Her work is sweet, whimsical, playful and is a beautiful blend of craft, art and design.
DL: If money were not an issue, what local retailer would you go to right now? What would you buy and why?
AT: Klaus carries the Moooi Horse Floor Lamp. I love grand, whimsical, random objects and this lamp represents all that and more. I’ve wanted it for years now.
DL: Where do you go for a summer drink or just a good coffee?
AT: My summer drink is lemonade and the Dark Horse has the best in town.
DL: Where is your favourite place to be in Yorkville on a Sunday morning?
AT: Crêpes a Gogo. It has the best crepes in town and it’s reminiscent of Paris cafés. It sometimes has an accordion player. Sheer perfection!
DL: Where are your favourite shops in the Yorkville neighbourhood?
AT: When I’m looking for one-of-a-kind Canadian craft I go to The Guild Shop. For beautiful leather bags and accessories I go to M0851 (38 Avenue Rd) and for cutting edge fashion I go to RAC Boutique (124 Cumberland St).
