INTERGALACTIC PLANETARY: Tracey Snelling

A new exhibit in Trinity Bellwoods explores a blend of different worlds, geographies, people, and perspectives
Koffler Arts proudly presents INTERGALACTIC PLANETARY, the Canadian debut of acclaimed contemporary artist Tracey Snelling. On view from September 18 through December 14, 2025, this ambitious solo exhibition transforms the gallery into a kaleidoscopic world where sculpture, photography, video, and installation collide.
Snelling’s practice draws on her travels and observations of urban life, weaving together fragments of architecture, sound, and image into immersive works that capture the beauty and chaos of our interconnected world. INTERGALACTIC PLANETARY brings together imagery from cities such as Shanghai, Chongqing, Berlin, Tokyo, Bangkok, and sites across the United States, presenting a patchwork of cultures and environments that merge into one cacophonous whole.
The art exhibition’s title, borrowed from the iconic Beastie Boys track that shaped the artist’s youth, underscores the spirit of play, humour, and global connectivity that runs throughout the show. It reflects Snelling’s desire to zoom out and look at humanity through a wider lens—one that acknowledges difference, but also highlights the shared systems and tensions that define how we live together.
As Snelling explains: “Through this work, I ask: how can we move beyond our fears, borders, and egos to become more humane? Perhaps by staying curious, open, and willing to see each other more fully, we can take a small step toward connection, and even a glimmer of peace for the future.”
With its mix of scale, sound, and cinematic detail, INTERGALACTIC PLANETARY by Tracey Snelling invites audiences to move between worlds both real and imagined. The result is a sensory journey that is as much about global urbanism as it is about human connection, offering a hopeful vision of unity amidst noise and division.
