Luxe living solutions join Design Mile
Molteni & C, an 80-year-old Italian manufacturer, has finally opened a Toronto showroom—a flagship that emulates a luxurious penthouse, albeit with two kitchens and no bath. Filled with elegantly proportioned furniture and polished cabinetry, its neutral-toned vignettes demonstrate Molteni & C’s commitment to sophisticated design and detailing.
In the living room, elm panels on a handsome shelving unit lift to reveal a bar that’s stocked with Aperol and Hendrick’s Gin. Further back, sliding accessory trays in the walk-in closet provide places for every gold necklace and patterned pocket square. Manager Roman Cholasta is right to call his brand’s stylish storage systems “Carrie Bradshaw closets”: they showcase couture better than your average boutique.
But don’t think this furniture is meant only for fictional fashionistas. Molteni & C prioritizes real-world functionality. Light strips in the closets, for example, are powered by an innovative track system that lets you reconfigure shelves without rewiring. And the genius Multitank sink, courtesy of sister kitchen manufacturer Dada, offers three tiers of sliding surfaces for chopping, draining and washing, and prepping to maximize space.

Next in the pipeline: a collection of bespoke hinges, which will carry Molteni & C’s characteristic refinement down to the smallest of details.
Best bet: Swanky furniture by such industry heavy hitters as Patricia Urquiola, Ron Arad and Gio Ponti. The Arc dining table by Foster + Partners (from $5760) is a particular standout. While its sturdy base is made of concrete, its sculptural form manages to convey the delicacy of an origami swan.
